Looking back at 2013.
First of all I would like to thank all my clients for making this year possible. It's that time of the year to look back, but also look forward. At this point I'm more looking forward to some big changes for my business in 2014. But making new goals also means that you have to make a review of the past and actually sometimes see your life from above.
This is my annual review of the year 2013 and some thoughts about the future:
The best behind the scene window:Instagram. On Instagram I post photos from my everyday life but also a lot from my life as a photographer.
Best song released: RY X -Berlin.
I’m hooked on:Pinterest! I love pinning (and also when I get inquiries from clients how have found my work through Pinterest).
A moment I just wished that I've could disappeared: When I did a workshop in France teaching 20 French photographers in Biarritz and my luggage got lost in Paris. I was waitng and waiting for a phone call from Air France but I had to do the first workshop day of two without any new clothes and no makeup. All I got was everything technically (camera bag and laptop) for the workshop, but standing on a scene like that, when I rarely go to the supermarket without makeup, was pretty uncomfortable.
Best feature: Wedding photos from Bali featured in Harper's Bazaar and a travel story in the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet from Bretagne, France.
Most fun editorial shoot: The trip to Ireland with the journalist Evelyn Pesikan. What a wonderful landscape we were driving through! Fairytale-ish. I hope to share some features soon (working with magazines often means a long time from shooting to get the story published since it's often needs to be the right season of the year for it). I also loved photographing the story about Ibiza.
Best memory from the network weddingphotographers.se: Our conference at Nynäs havsbad where we had a lot of time to talk about the future. Our meetings is often pretty stressful so it was great to have a warm outdoor bath in the cold with wine, a dinner on the evening, spending the night and eating breakfast together. I also want to take the time here to thank Lieselotte van der Meijs for the years with the network. Lieselotte had decided to leave us and focus on other fields in photography.
Must fun company shoot: Photos for a music director.
I’m thankful for: Everything. I belive that life should be lived reflected and with thankfulness. Otherwise it's so easy to chasing something all the time without feeling blessed for what we got.
My favorite quote: "When people ask me what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes" - Ansel Adams. I often got questions about my equipment and my post processing and all I want to tell everyone is to find their own ways and their own expressions. I believe that too many these days are looking for shortcuts and simple actions to the photography profession instead of looking inside their own souls. It took year's and year's for me to find my style, that is a searching that can't be made with a simple press of a button.
Most challenging: Have a normal life when you working with something that you are very passionate about and at the same time are a perfectionist.
Dreaming of: Being killer queen at longboarding.
What I want to do more of in 2014: Photograph more business portraits and photograph more interesting homes (send me an email if you know, or have, a unique home that you think might be an option for a magazine feature) .
I'm looking forward to: Finally share my new website later on in January!
Here are some of my favorite wedding photos from 2013:
